Armando Aguilar

During his years at ILS Armando was involved with Student Council, National Honor Society, MU Alpha Theta, and the French Honor Society. He was also on the Varsity cross Country Team. He has many fond memories of Brother Carl Shonk’s English IV Honors class, Chris Crotty’s Honors World History class and Honors U.S. History class, and Araceli Crotty’s French I and II, Sr. Emy Filippi’s Honors Geometry and Honors Algebra II, and Dr, James Duggard’s Old Testament Theology class. It is obvious, by the number of Honors classes that Armando worked incredibly hard during his time at ILS. Armando, now in his 20th year as a law enforcement officer, has risen rapidly through the chain of command to become Assistant Chief of the City of Miami police department and his career path has given him a profound insight into the discipline and commitment that is required for one to not only succeed but to excel. After graduating LaSalle, he attended FIU for two years and then at the age of 20, he took a break to become a Police Officer. Later, he returned to school and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Leo University. In his own words, Armando relates that this was no easy task. He had to balance work and family obligations with his college course work, but he went further earning a Master of Public Administration degree from Barry University. He advises today’s ILS students to stay focused and to earn their college degrees as soon as possible because it requires tremendous discipline and sacrifice to balance work, family, and school. In his role as Assistant Chief of police he oversees the Criminal Investigation Division. Some of the units he is responsible for are Homicide, Special Victims, Narcotics, Intelligence & Terrorism, Gangs, Crime Scene Investigation, Tactical Investigations, Real Time Center, and the Crime Gun Intelligence Center. He earned his promotions quickly and views each step in his career as an opportunity to drive lasting, positive change for the Miami Police department and the people of Miami. Even with these massive responsibilities, Armando finds time to serve as a Board Member of the two Hundred Club of Miami, a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide financial assistance to the spouses and children of First Responders who lose their lives in the service of Miami Dade County. For the last 17 years Armando has been married to his wife Angela and together they have two beautiful, bright teenage daughters. ILS is proud of Armando Aguilar Jr. and we take just a tiny bit of credit for shaping the man whose decency, work ethic, and outlook in life serve our city and our community so well and we pray, for a long time to come.
